At Naropa University, Susan Skjei oversees the Authentic Leadership Center. The respected Authentic Leadership in Action (ALIA) Institute, initially located in Nova Scotia, Canada, and Naropa's well-regarded Authentic Leadership curriculum are combined at the Center. The Center's mission is to motivate, educate, and equip the current and upcoming generations of leaders to drive meaningful organizational and societal change. The ALC's transformational learning approach creates deep insight. It expands leadership capacity for a positive impact on businesses and society by combining the fields of mindfulness, organizational learning, expressive arts, neuroscience, and complexity science. For over 25 years, Susan has advised boards, executive teams, and executives of enterprises, nonprofit organizations, and governmental organizations. She possesses a unique talent for fostering engaging, high-trust learning settings that hasten the accomplishment of tangible organizational objectives while forging solid, cooperative bonds. She has offered consultation, facilitation, training, training, and coaching in leadership, strategic planning, corporate culture, mindfulness, innovation, and change management. For a variety of client organizations, including Hewlett-Packard, Phipps Construction, The Colorado Air National Guard, StorageTek, Fraser Health Authority in Vancouver, The Mental Health Center of Boulder County, The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Nestle Corporation, and Habitat for Humanity, Susan has designed and led large-scale change initiatives. With organizations like LOHAS, Naturally, Boulder, ReSource, and the Lean and Green Division of the Association of Manufacturing Excellence, many of her most recent initiatives have had a "green" or sustainability focus (AME). In her most recent corporate job, Susan worked as a vice president and chief learning officer for StorageTek, a $2.4 billion supplier of electronic storage systems. She was in charge of creating the company's learning and change management strategy and putting it into effect across 40 nations and 8,500 workers globally. She established a virtual corporate university to educate and teach StorageTek's staff, clients, and partners globally. She previously worked as a training and development manager at Hewlett-Packard in Colorado Springs. Susan has worked directly with CEOs, executives, and managers to help them clarify their personal and professional goals and implement them successfully within their executive coach. She has created and led several leadership and board retreats and specializes in mentoring executive teams. Susan is an active member of Associated Consultants International, the Academy of Management, and the International Leadership Association. She holds the International Coaching Federatthe International Coaching Federation'son's professional coaching certification (national systems from Fielding Graduate University and an MS in human resource development from American University/NTL. Her study explores diverse facets of the leadership experience using phenomenology, hermeneutics, and action research. She is a founding member of the ALIA Institute, the director of the Authentic Leadership Program at Naropa University, and a senior associate of the Presencing Institute. She has created and led conferences, programs, and leadership seminars for thousands of US, Canadian, and Europe attendees. Susan is a senior teacher in the Shambhala Buddhist school and an Acharya.
