Susan R. Komives Biography

Professor Emerita Susan R. Komives teaches at the University of Maryland. She served as the vice president of two institutions, was a past leader of the American College Personnel Association and the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education, and is the author or editor of twelve books, including Student Services: Exploring Leadership for a Better World, the Handbook for Student Leadership Development, and Enhancing Student Learning and Development in Cross-Border Higher Education (Oct 2016). She is the first New Directions in Student Leadership arrangement's official editorial manager. She belonged to the organizations that founded Learning. The ACPA/NASPA Competencies have been reviewed model of social change for developing leaders; the Leadership Identity Development grounded hypothesis, the Relational Leadership Model, and the Global Multi-Institutional Study of Leadership. She is a strong advocate for the National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs (NCLP) and a former International Leadership Association's Board of Directors member. She has offered advice or introduced people in Canada, China, Qatar, South Korea, and Taiwan. Dr. Komives is a recipient of the ACPA Lifetime Achievement Award and outstanding research funds from NASPA and ACPA.
