Susan Greenfield Biography

Susan Greenfield is an Oxford-based author, broadcaster, and research scientist. She has held research scholarships at the College de France in Paris, the Department of Physiology at Oxford, and NYU Medical Center in New York. Since then, she has received 31 honorary degrees from British and international universities. She now serves as the leader of a multidisciplinary research team examining unique brain pathways connected to neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. She is a Senior Research Fellow at Lincoln College in Oxford and is a co-founder of a biotech startup working on a cutting-edge treatment for neurodegenerative diseases (Neuro-Bio Ltd). She was chosen for an honorary fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in 2000 and the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2007. In 2005, she was named Chancellor of Heriot-Watt University. The French government's L'Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur and the American Academy of Achievement's Golden Plate Award, both won in 2003, are further awards for her work. The Australian Medical Research Society Medal was given to Susan in 2010. Susan was awarded an honorary fellowship by the Institute of Risk Management in 2012 and joined the board of POWER International as a vice patron. In addition to continuing to be a Parliamentary Patron of the Westminster Education Forum in 2012, Susan was chosen to serve as the Parliamentary Patron of the Westminster Higher Education Forum. Susan continued through 2012 to support the IAB and serve as a Governor of The Florey Institute for Neuroscience and Mental Health (the International Advisory Board). She was listed in Debrett's 500 in January 2014, "a celebration of the most inspirational and influential 500 persons in Britain."
