Susan Crown serves as both the administrator and inventor of SCE, a social enterprise organization that combines growth and ability with commercial forces to promote social change. The first SCE program focuses on the development and transmission of digital media that help children learn skills necessary for city living and the workplace of the twenty-first century. Crown is a vice president of the Chicago-based venture capital business Henry Crown and Company as well as a director of the official board of trustees of Illinois Tool Works, the bad habit seat of Rush University Medical Center. She is a trustee of the Natural Resources Defense Council, a member of the Northern Trust Corporation's board of directors, and the founding co-chair of the NRDC's Midwest Council. She recently co-led CARE's national summit on global poverty in Washington, DC, where she campaigned for the US Congress to pass legislation on food security programs, child marriage, and an unnatural weather change.
