Sunita Williams Biography

American space explorer Sunita Williams is also a United States Navy representative of Indo-Slovenian descent. She previously held the marks for the longest spacewalk time and the most complete spacewalks by a woman, both with seven (50 hours 40 minutes). Between Expedition 14 and Expedition 15, Williams was assigned as a person to the International Space Station. She served as a stand-in flight engineer on Expedition 32 in 2012 and then as the expedition's administrator in 2013. In May 1987, Williams was charged as an ensign in the US Navy. She was given a basic diving officer position at the Naval Coastal System Command after a six-month temporary job there. She then reported to the Naval Air Training Command, where in July 1989 she was given the title of Naval Aviator. She received basic H-46 Sea Knight training in Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 3 (HC-3) before being transferred to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 8 (HS-8) in Norfolk, Virginia, where she participated in overseas operations for Operation Desert Shield and Operation Provide Comfort in the Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf. Williams began his training at the U.S. Maritime Test Pilot School in 1993. She received a job with the Rotary Wing Aircraft Test Directorate at the T-2 as a V-22 pursuit pilot and H-46 Project Officer after graduating in December. She went back to work as an instructor in the Rotary Wing Department and Safety Officer at the Naval Test Pilot School in December 1995. She afterward transferred to the USS Saipan where she served as the assistant air boss and aircraft handler. When NASA selected Williams for the space passenger programme, she was placed on the Saipan in June 1998.
