Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found, written by New York-based Suketu Mehta, earned the Kiriyama Prize and made the finals for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize, Lettre Ulysses Prize, BBC4 Samuel Johnson Prize, and Guardian First Book Award. For his fiction, he has received a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, the O. Henry Prize, and the Whiting Writers Award. Mehta is currently working on a real book on settlers in modern-day New York for which he received a Guggenheim partnership in 2007. Mehta's work has been featured on NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross and has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic Granta Harper's Magazine, Time, and Condé Nast Traveler. Additionally, he has made several appearances on CNN, Fox News, and other national TV and radio programs. Mehta was born in Calcutta and raised in New York City and Bombay. He graduated from both the Iowa Writers' Workshop and New York University. He wrote a distinctive script for Mission Kashmir, a Bollywood film, and The Goddess, a Merchant-Ivory movie starring Tina Turner.
