In 2004, Chowdhury received the ITI's most prestigious Rockwell Medal for Excellence in Technology and was admitted into the Hall of Fame for Engineering, Science, and Technology (World Level). Chowdhury holds undergraduate degrees in aerospace engineering and industrial management from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India, as well as an honorary doctorate in engineering from Michigan Technological University (MTU). IIT listed Chowdhury as one of its top 15 distinguished graduates in 2003, the year of its golden anniversary, while CMU gave him its Distinguished Alumni Award (which has been bestowed upon only 22 alumni in its 100-plus year history). His engineering and management publications are used in undergraduate and graduate programs at the majority of engineering and business schools worldwide.
