Stuart Namm, known as the Serpico of Judges, was the first person to receive the Justice Thurgood Marshall award, the David C. Michaels award, and lifelong NAACP membership. He spent 16 months in Korea after graduating from CCNY. He was born in a Brooklyn slum.
After serving for a while in the FTC, he was elected judge in Suffolk County, New York, where he exposed the dishonest court system on Long Island. He quit the legal profession and retired to North Carolina after 16 and a half years on the bench and was denied renomination.
