Belgian vocalist, songwriter, and producer Stromae is noted for his sharp appearance and brand-name tie. His music blends hip-hop elements with the cold, clean rhythms of house music and other types of electronic dance music. On March 12, 1985, Paul van Haver had the idea for Stromae in Brussels. Van Haver's Rwandan father abandoned the family when he was a young child, and he seldom saw him. He was reared by his Belgian mother and developed a love of music at a young age. Van Haver started playing the drums at L'Académie Musicale de Jette when he was 11 years old. He started rapping in 2005, and after fast developing as Opmaestro, he made his huge entrance under the moniker Stromae (a term that is rearranged for Maestro) and launched a fleeting hip-bounce group called Suspicion. In 2007, Stromae resumed stepping in for performances, and he also released his debut song, Juste un Cerveau un Flow un Fond et un Mic. His big break came in 2009 while he was working at a Belgian radio station and used his home recording studio to create the song Alors on Dance. The station's director was impressed enough with the song to play it on the radio. The response from the audience was enthusiastic, and Stromae made a deal with Polygram Records. Alors on Dance became a No. 1 hit in Belgium and went on to replicate that success in twelve other countries, including Germany. Greece, Denmark, France, Italy, and Switzerland. He released his debut album Cheese in 2010 as Alors on Dance topped the charts across Europe and Stromae's tracks became popular on YouTube. When Kanye West and Stromae collaborated on a remix of Alors on Dance that featured a guest verse from West, Stromae's career in the US received a huge boost in August 2010.
