Steve Young Biography

Steve Young was a professional football player in the past. His NFL career extended more than 15 years, largely with the San Francisco 49ers, where he garnered various honors such as Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXXIX; Sports Illustrated and Sporting News' Player of the Year from 1992 to 1994; and NFL's Most Valuable Player in 1992 and 1994. Steve Young became the first left-handed quarterback to be elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005. In addition, he is the managing director of Huntsman Gay Global Capital. Young was a remarkably effective thrower during his NFL career, leading the league in passer rating six times and completion % and yards per attempt five times. He earned the greatest passer rating among NFL quarterbacks with at least 1,500 passing attempts at the time of his retirement (96.8). As of the completion of the 2016 season, he was rated sixth all-time in passer rating, and second among retired players only to Tony Romo. His 43 career running touchdowns rank second among quarterbacks, and his 4,239 rushing yards rank third. Young founded and chairs the Forever Young Foundation, which is actively involved in children's charities around the world. He is also the current broadcast host and former International Spokesperson for the Children's Miracle Network, which has raised over $1 billion for children's hospitals around the world. Young also serves as a National Advisor for ASCEND: A Humanitarian Alliance, an organization that organizes trips to African and South American nations to give mentoring and sustainable solutions in education, business, health, and technology.
