About Steve Ford
Steve Ford Biography
Steven Ford is the son of former US President Gerald Ford and former First Lady Betty Ford. Ford was born as the third and youngest son of former President Gerald Ford and former First Lady Betty Ford in East Grand Rapids, Michigan. On June 14, 1974, Ford graduated from T. C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia, where his father, then-Vice President, delivered the graduating address. Ford studied range management at Utah State University, while his older brother Jack studied forestry. Ford also attended California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where he majored in horse studies. Ford was cast as Tom Chisum in the 1978 picture Grease, but backed out before production began, citing stage fear, and was replaced by Lorenzo Lamas. Ford first appeared on The Young and the Restless in 1981, as Private Investigator Andy Richards. He was a regular cast member from 1981 until 1987, then temporarily from 2002 to 2003. Ford has since starred in a variety of minor roles in films and television shows such as Escape From New York, Babylon 5: In the Beginning, Armageddon, Black Hawk Down, Starship Troopers, When Harry Met Sally, Heat, Contact, and Transformers. He presented the short-lived series Secret Service from 1992 to 1993. Ford is a member of the Gerald R. Ford Foundation's board of trustees in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He sees himself as a "fiscal conservative" and a "moderate Republican." He also admitted to becoming an alcoholic in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Although he continues to perform on occasion, he spends the most of his time raising funds for charity organizations and giving speeches and motivating presentations to student groups about alcoholism. He has never been married. He confirmed his engagement to Laura Carlos in 1991. Later, he stated that the marriage preparations were scrapped because he was working on his sobriety. On February 14, 1980, he filed a lawsuit in California to discover if he was the legal father of Lawrence, a son born to Joy Malken on December 16, 1979. He also requested custody and/or visitation. Soon later, "a comprehensive and friendly solution" was reached.
