Steve Breen Biography

In 1998 and 2009, Steve Breen was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning. His syndicated editorial cartoons run in over 300 newspapers around the country. Steve graduated from the University of California, Riverside, with a degree in political science in 1992. In 1996, he was employed as an editorial cartoonist for the Asbury Park Press (NJ), and in 2001, he was hired by The San Diego Union-Tribune. Steve Breen was born in 1970 in Los Angeles and grew up in Orange County. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of California, Riverside, in 1992. In 1994, Steve began his journalistic career at the Asbury Park Press. He has been the Union-editorial Tribune's cartoonist since 2001. Creators News Service syndicates his work nationally, and it appears in newspapers throughout the country on a regular basis. Steve is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner for editorial cartooning (1998, 2009). Steve writes and illustrations picture books for Penguin in his spare time, including Stick (2007), Violet The Pilot (2008), The Secret of Santa's Island (2009), and Pug and Doug (2010). (2013). Steve, his wife, and their five children live in San Diego. He likes reading, running, playing the guitar, watching classic movies on Netflix, and talking on the phone with his father.
