Stephen A. Orlins Biography

Since 2005, Stephen Orlins has led the National Committee. He was previously the Carlyle Asia managing director and the administrator of Taiwan Broadband Communications. Mr. Orlins was a senior lawyer at AEA Investors Inc. before joining Carlyle. Mr. Orlins was a supervising executive and the CEO of Lehman Brothers Asia from 1983 until 1991. Prior to joining Lehman Brothers, Mr. Orlins practiced law in New York, Hong Kong, and Beijing with Coudert Brothers and Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton and Garrison. From 1976 to 1979, Mr. Orlins worked in the United States Department of State's Office of the Legal Advisor, first as the Assistant Legal Advisor for Political-Military Affairs and then as the Assistant Legal Advisor for East Asian and Pacific Affairs. He was a member of the legitimate group that established conciliatory ties with the People's Republic of China while in that position. Mr. Orlins is a Harvard College and Harvard Law School graduate.
