Stacy Pearsall Biography

Stacy L. Pearsall began her career as an Air Force photographer when she was 17 years old. During her service, she went to over 41 countries and completed the Military Photojournalism Program at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. She received the Bronze Star Medal and an Air Force Commendation with Valor for her brave acts under fire during three combat deployments. Combat crippled and discharged from the military Pearsall continues to work as a freelance photographer across the world, as well as being an author, educator, military consultant, public speaker, and the founder of the Veterans Portrait Project. Pearsall was one of only two women to win NPPA's Military Photographer of the Year award and the only woman to have received it twice. She has received the Trojan Labor American Hero Award, the Daughters of the American Revolution Margaret Cochran Corbin Award, and has been recognized as a Champion of Change by the White House. She also has an honorary doctorate from The Citadel. Pearsall bought the Charleston Center for Photography after serving in the military (CCP). She transformed the once-rookie photo club into a respected brand that offers photography courses, studio rentals, fine art print laboratories, and a gallery all under one roof. Her own work with the Veterans Portrait Project expanded in tandem with CCP. Pearsall sold CPP in the fall of 2012 to pursue her own project full-time.
