Stacey David Biography

Stacey David, who grew up in Idaho, established a reputation as the town's hot-rodder by driving his 1930 5-window coupe to school every day. It was a true hot rod... quick and deadly! It's a miracle I'm still alive! His fascination with all things powered by a motor began much earlier. Stacey was 12 years old when he helped rebuild his first automobile, his sister's 1963 VW bug. But before that, he was developing insanely fast go-karts powered by 440 snowmobile engines! However, it was Stacey's father's old flat fender Willys Jeep that sparked his interest for 4-wheel drive and off-roading, which he still has today. When Stacey was in college at Boise State University, he was supposed to be studying biology, but instead he was learning performance driving at local tracks and absorbing all he could about racing legends like Richard Petty, Don Garlits, and Carroll Shelby. Everything appeals to me! I'd want to drive it if it runs. Stacey also studied the distinctive construction techniques of George Barris, John Buttera, and Darryl Starbird, to mention a few. I'd always wanted something different (to drive) that no one else had, and I discovered that the only way to acquire it was to create it myself. Stacey moved to Nashville and established The Rattletrap, a custom company that specialized in everything from engine construction to custom paint jobs, suspension work, metal fabrication, and everything in between. It was here that he established a reputation for designing, manufacturing, and restoring vehicles, trucks, and anything else could be hauled in!
