Spencer Christian Biography

Spencer Christian began working for ABC7 News in January 1999 as a weather forecaster for the evening newscasts at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. He joined ABC7 after nearly 13 years with Good Morning America "located in New York," where he handled national weather updates as well as travel around the United States and internationally reporting on a variety of issues ranging from current events to human interest stories. Spencer spent 22 years in New York, including 13 years at GMA and nine years at WABC-TV, an ABC-owned station in New York where he worked as a weatherman and sportscaster from 1977 to 1986. Spencer also presented WABC-Good TV's Morning New York for a short period. Spencer worked as a weathercaster in Baltimore from 1975 to 1977, when he also presented Spencer's World, a weekly half-hour chat program. In 1971, he began his television career as a news reporter in Richmond, Virginia, covering state and local politics, the public school system, and major cases in the Fourth US Circuit Court of Appeals. While in Richmond, he received the Better Life Award for his investigations exposing abuses in Virginia nursing facilities, and in Baltimore, he received an Emmy Award for a special series of stories titled 'Does Anyone Here Speak English?' concentrating on America's youth's diminishing language abilities.
