Sol Salinas Biography

Sol Salinas is the Global Leader of Accenture's Smart Cities group and the Leader of the North America Sustainability Practice. His responsibilities include assisting in the global expansion of Accenture's presence in the US federal government, Health and Public Service (H&PS), Retail Consumer Goods, Light Industrial, and Energy sectors, as well as the development and maintenance of a global Smart Cities offering and Alliances with global IoT providers. He has overseen overall program direction for various sustainability clients with annual revenues exceeding $100 million in North America and globally, including the US Department of Energy (DOE), the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the US General Services Administration (GSA), the US Department of Transportation (DOT), the World Bank-International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), and various global commercial strategy and sustainability clients. Mr. Salinas was the founder and CEO of Blue Dot Environmental Consulting, a minority-owned small business focusing in strategic sustainability consulting, before joining Accenture. Mr. Salinas is a business sustainability subject matter expert with 22 years of experience, 15 of which were spent in executive roles with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He was one of the founders of US EPA ENERGY STAR program and directed its expansion from 1991 to 2005. He previously worked as an Assistant Office Director at the US EPA Office of International Affairs, where he was in charge of international environmental projects in the areas of air toxics and water, as well as the establishment of long-term program direction and financial operations. Mr. Salinas, in particular, designed and implemented a variety of multilateral and bilateral public-private partnerships to promote US government foreign environmental goals in the areas of climate change, mercury, and clean drinking water and sanitation. Leading a team of international program managers, policy experts, and communications professionals to support the US government's launch of the Methane to Markets Partnership, a highly successful international public-private partnership to help reduce methane emissions that contribute to climate change, was one notable success. Similarly in the field of toxics he developed The Global Cooperation for Mercury Management in Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining an international public-private partnership to limit exposure to mercury from small scale mining activities. In the field of water, Mr. Salinas was instrumental in the establishment of the Water Safety Action Network, a multilateral private-public partnership aimed at promoting the use of the World Health Organization (WHO) Water Safety Plan concept in an effort to align the resources of developed countries and donor institutions with the needs of developing countries.
