About Sister Souljah
Sister Souljah Biography
She graduated from Rutgers University with degrees in American history and African studies. She also took Advanced Placement Studies at Cornell University and studied abroad in Europe at the University of Salamanca. Souljah, a global student, spent her college years traveling to England, France, Spain, Portugal, Finland, and Russia. Her academic achievements were bolstered by actual experiences. She helped to create a medical clinic for families in Bindura, Zimbabwe, and she worked with Mozambique refugee children. She was a key figure in the worldwide student anti-apartheid campaign, helping to build the momentum, movement, and enthusiasm that released Nelson Mandela and resulted in the divestment of millions of dollars from firms doing business with apartheid South Africa. Her African excursions also took her to Zambia and South Africa. She thinks that African professionals must work together to safeguard their continent, resources, families, and children. Souljah founded, funded, and operated the African Youth Survival Program as a student activist in America, a six-week summer sleep-away academic/cultural camp for 200 children from homeless families. This camp, which she built, operated for three years in a row and prompted famous celebrities to launch their own camps and schools, as well as to build charities and institutions to give back. Souljah organized as a community activist against racially motivated crimes, police brutality, and urban youth miseducation. She organized and marketed multiple outdoor protests and concerts in Harlem, New York, attracting almost 30,000 young people each time, as well as prominent hip-hop and RB personalities. Souljah has appeared on a variety of venues, including radio and television. She was the youthful voice in New York radio who spoke to the hip-hop audience about politics, culture, commerce, and social organization prior to the governmental shutdown and attack on American first amendment rights. This includes appearances on Oprah, Larry King Live, and the cover of Newsweek magazine, as well as being a prominent speaker at the Million Woman March. Souljah's hip-hop album, 360 Degrees of Power, generated international controversy on topics of race, culture, misogyny, and politics. Souljah is now a multifaceted lady of the twenty-first century. From 1995 through 2007 she was the Executive Director of Daddy's House Social Programs, the humanitarian part of Bad Boy Entertainment. Souljah developed cultural and academic activities for urban adolescents at Daddy's House, which were housed at Columbia University. Souljah also founded, developed, and directed summer sleep-away camps and overseas youth travel groups, which had a significant influence on many American youngsters. She is the bestselling author of three books, including The Coldest Winter Ever, No Disrespect, and Midnight, A Gangster Love Story. Sister Souljah became a New York Times Bestseller one week after the release of Midnight, A Gangster Love Story in 2008, debuting at #7.
