He became President of Ford, Mexico, twenty years later, where he oversaw production and marketing activities. He returned to the United Kingdom in 1992 as Vice-Chairman of Jaguar Cars Ltd., soon ascending to become Chairman and Chief Executive. During his seven years at Jaguar, sales more than quadrupled, and the company reclaimed its position as one of the world's top marques in terms of brand image, product quality, and customer happiness. He became President of Ford Europe in July 2000, and is credited with directing the increasingly successful transition of Ford's European company. Sir Nick was named President and COO of Ford's global business, as well as a member of the Board of Directors, in October 2001. Scheele is actively involved in a variety of charitable, corporate, and community service endeavors. In 2003, he was awarded an honorary degree by Durham University. In 2002, he was appointed Chancellor of the University of Warwick. Scheele was knighted by the British Queen in June 2001. He received the Order of St. Michael and St. George for his contributions to British exports. He is a member of the British American Chamber of Commerce's Advisory Board. He is especially interested in young people's education and has been involved in a number of significant efforts to improve the visibility of training and education. After successfully chairing a campaign to collect funds for Boole House, a childcare center in Coventry, England, he was elected a lifetime member of the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children). He is a patron of Greenways Homes and a supporter of the Save the Children Fund and the St. Basil's Appeal for Homeless Children. In 2003, he oversaw the Southeast Michigan United Way's annual fundraising drive. He was born in the county of Essex. Scheele, who is married with three children, enjoys reading and music. He is a skilled linguist who is conversant in German, French, and Spanish.
