Silouan's life was broken after a catastrophic plane accident while serving as a US Marine, which was followed by a slew of difficulties and medical ailments. He suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (or PTSD), despair, suicidal thoughts, long-term pain, and a completely ruined existence. It was here, peering into the abyss, that he was offered the option of continuing along the same destructive road or living free. He opted to live a free life. After selling all he possessed, he bought a motorcycle and a guitar. He got more competent at riding the motorbike as he learned to play the guitar and write songs, and on the day he was disability discharged from the US Marine Corps, he embarked on an epic two-year journey. He traveled for nearly 30000 miles and packed a lifetime of adventure into only 24 months. He met his wife on the trip, and she accompanied him for about 8000 kilometers! They trailblazed through mountain passes and other incredible panoramas while camping on the Grand Canyon's rim and pitching a tent in Yellowstone, surrounded by Buffalo and Elk. They've been married for 17 years and have eight children, all of whom they homeschool! The adventure continues as they raise their children with the belief that life was designed to be lived with meaning and purpose, with every day being an opportunity for something extraordinary. He is living proof that God created us with a purpose, and that no matter what our circumstances are, we can utilize our brokenness as fuel to live free.
