Signe Preuschoft Biography

Signe's outstanding record of accomplishments dates back to the mid-1990s, when she began her dissertation in Zoology/Primatology at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands and continued her post-Doc studies at the Yerkes Primate Center in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States of America. For almost a decade, Signe taught zoology/primatology at several colleges in the United States and Austria, as well as serving as the Scientific Director of the Hope Chimpanzee Rehabilitation and Resocialization Program in Austria. VIER PFOTEN (also known as Four Paws) founded the Competence Center Apes in 2007 and began providing financial assistance to the BOS Foundation. Signe has subsequently been appointed as the Center's director. Signe has been seconded to the BOS Foundation since 2009 to assist in the development and optimization of the orangutan reintroduction program in Samboja Lestari. She is presently also the Scientific Advisor for the BOS Foundation. Signe was motivated to engage with monkeys by her father, a scientist with specialization in Physical Anthropology and Anatomy. She is particularly fond of orangutans for a variety of reasons. Orangutans are sweet, clever, mischievous, powerful, innocent, and courageous creatures. She also enjoys the fact that orangutans have four hands, at least three of which are usually clutching something. She is astounded to discover that they have a keen sense of smell and expressive eyes. There are several other reasons why Signe has chosen to devote her life to orangutans.
