Shivani Siroya Biography

Shivani Siroya is the founder and CEO of Tala, a mobile technology and data science startup that provides financial access to the world's disadvantaged population. The Tala smartphone app leverages alternative data to provide quick credit and assist clients in developing their financial identities. Tala has issued more than $150M in loans throughout East Africa and the Philippines is fast spreading throughout Latin America and Southeast Asia. Tala, formerly known as InVenture, is supported by IVP Ribbit Capital Lowercase Capital Data Collective Collaborative Fund, as well as other notable venture and impact investors. In 2016 Fast Company rated Tala as one of its top 10 startups in Money and Forbes listed Tala as one of the top 50 FinTech firms in the world. Tala's work has also been featured by Forbes, the New York Times, the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, TED, and Wired, among others. Tala's headquarters are in Santa Monica, with operations in Nairobi and Manila. Shivani has a diverse work background that includes global health microfinance and investment banking. Prior to joining Tala, she worked at the United Nations Population Fund, where she assisted in the development of pricing models for Africa and Asia. She has also worked in investment banking, first in mergers and acquisitions at Health Net Citigroup and then in equity research at UBS. Shivani is an Aspen Institute Finance Leader Fellow a WEF Young Global Leader Senior TED Fellow and Ashoka Fellow. She also serves on the Stellar.org board of directors. Shivani has a Master of Public Health from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University.
