Sheizaf Rafaeli (B.A. Haifa University) M.A. Ohio State University M.A. Ph.D. Stanford University) is the Founding Director of the Center for Internet Research (InfoSoc the Center for the Study of the Information Society) (1998-present) and the former Head of the Graduate School of Management (2005-2011) at the University of Haifa in Israel. He directs the Serious Games for Executives initiative and serves as Director of a number of public interest organizations as well as on various Editorial Boards. He is a co-PI and member of the Academic Management of the ICORE LINKS Center of Excellence for Learning in the Information Age research. He formerly worked as the head of the Information Systems section of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's GSB from 1986. His interests include computers as a kind of media. He has written on this in periodicals such as Behavior and Information Technology. He is also involved in putting what he preaches into practice: He has been active in the development of internet-based activities such as online higher education media, political, governmental, social, and economic virtual groups, and endeavors. He wrote software and books for the Open University on graphics, electronic spreadsheets, and statistical analysis, as well as a textbook on information systems. Network and NetPlay: Virtual Groups on the Internet, co-edited with Fay Sudweeks and Margaret McLaughlin, was published by MIT Press in 1998. He was the international ProjectH co-coordinator. He was the founding and co-editor of The Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, and he is particularly proud of creating and establishing the SHIL (Citizen's Advice Board) online service. He presently serves on the editorial boards of various publications, including JCMC ITSharenet and IJKL. Prof. Rafaeli has served on the Stockholm International Challenge Jury for Information Systems Projects for several years. Sheizaf has worked as a visiting researcher and teacher at Ohio State University. Michigan State University, IBM, Stanford University, Technion Israeli College of Management, and the University of Michigan are among the institutions involved. Electronic Business Information Studies is one of his current hobbies. Communication via Computer Computer-mediated collaboration, online simulations, and serious games are all examples of social network analysis. He has taught classes on computers as media and the social consequences of new communication technologies for the past twenty-five years, as well as various Information Systems courses.
