Sheila Jasanoff Biography

Sheila Jasanoff is the Harvard Kennedy School's Pforzheimer Professor of Science and Technology Studies. She is a pioneer in her profession, having written or edited more than 120 articles and chapters, as well as more than 15 books, including The Fifth Branch, Science at the Bar, Designs on Nature, and The Ethics of Invention. Her study investigates the role of science and technology in modern democracies' law, politics, and policy. She developed and oversees the Harvard STS Program; before, she was the founding chair of Cornell's STS Department. She has held renowned visiting positions at prestigious universities in Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States. Jasanoff was a member of the AAAS Board of Directors as well as the President of the Society for Social Studies of Science. She belongs to the Council on Foreign Relations. Her accolades include a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Sarton Chair at the University of Ghent, an Ehrenkreuz from the Austrian government, and membership in the Royal Danish Academy. She has an AB, JD, and PhD from Harvard, as well as an honorary doctorate from the University of Twente.
