Shane Greenstein Biography

Professor of business administration and co-chair of the HBS Digital Initiative, Shane Greenstein, hails from the MBA Class of 1957. He is a professor in the Technology, Operations, and Management Unit. The National Bureau of Economic Research's program on the economics of digitization is co-directed by Professor Greenstein. Professor Greenstein's research covers a wide range of computer, communication, and Internet topics, going beyond simple economic measurement and analysis to more general concerns. His most recent work is mainly concerned with the growth of the American commercial Internet. His work has been published by media publications ranging from The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal to Fast Company and PC World. In addition, he regularly posts commentary on his blog, Digitopoly. Professor Greenstein has previously held academic positions at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He earned his BA in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1983 and his Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University in 1989.
