About Seth Meyers
Seth Meyers Biography
An American television host, comedian, writer, political pundit, and actor by the name of Seth Meyers. He hosts the late-night discussion show Late Night with Seth Meyers on NBC. Before that, he hosted the show's news parody section, Weekend Update, and served as the show's top writer and cast member for NBC's Saturday Night Live (2001–2014). In 2001, Meyers became a cast member of Saturday Night Live. He received a promotion to writing supervisor in 2005 and shared the position of a co-head writer with Tina Fey and Andrew Steele beginning in January 2006. He competed to co-anchor Weekend Update alongside Fey in 2004, but Amy Poehler won. After Fey left, Meyers took over as head writer for the 2006–2007 season and partnered with Amy Poehler to headline Weekend Update. Between 2008 and 2013, Meyers hosted the show without Poehler. Cecily Strong joined Meyers as co-anchor in the 2013–2014 season. Meyers and Poehler co-hosted two Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday segments in the fall of 2009. Throughout his career, Meyers won appreciation from critics for his performance in several memorable SNL routines. Meyers created the skits for former SNL cast member Tina Fey, who returned as a guest performer to portray Republican vice presidential contender Sarah Palin during the 2008 American presidential election. I can see Russia from my house," the famous line shouted by Fey's Palin was developed by Meyers. "Really!?! with Seth and Amy was a well-liked recurrent joke that Meyers and Poehler had while serving as hosts of Weekend Update. Each show segment would close with a sarcastic "Really!?!" from both hosts, which Rolling Stone writer Jon Blistein described as a "torrent of frustration and confusion." The "Really!?!" section was repeatedly revived after Poehler left the program in 2008 when she appeared as a guest. Poehler unexpectedly appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers in June 2015, following Meyers' departure from his talk show, to join him in making fun of Sports Illustrated reporter Andy Benoit for calling women's sports "not worth watching." In addition, reviewers hailed Meyers' "Abe Lincoln" comedy for Louis C.K. in the vein of his series Louie and the Girls spoof with Tina Fey as the new Albanian "girl" as two of his greatest contributions to Saturday Night Live. Throughout the Writers Guild of America strike in 2007–2008, Meyers participated in picketing. When questioned, he stated: "We are all aware of how fortunate we are to have our current positions. We don't have a lot of demands. People are viewing TV in new ways. Thus the rules must be changed." Nevertheless, he acknowledged in interviews that he regretted skipping most of the primary season for the presidential election. On February 1, 2014, Meyers performed on his farewell SNL episode. At the Weekend Update desk with him were Strong, Poehler, Bill Hader as Stefon, Andy Samberg, and Fred Armisen as former New York State Governor David Paterson. In 2018, Meyers took over as host once more, and Paul Simon performed. After Jimmy Fallon left to take over The Tonight Show on May 12, 2013, NBC announced that Seth Meyers would take over as host of Late Night in 2014. On February 24, 2014, Meyers started working on Late Night, and his first guest was Weekend Update host and former SNL cast member Amy Poehler. On February 10, 2014, Meyers revealed that his house band, "The 8G Band," will be led by his former SNL coworker, Fred Armisen.
