Sebastien Marot had a couple of months' worth of travel planned to Cambodia. But he decided to remain on their behalf after spotting some sleeping abandoned toddlers outside a Phnom Penh restaurant. Marot founded Friends-International in 1994 to offer comprehensive services to these children to aid in their reintegration into society and teach them how to become productive, independent citizens. Marot did this with the understanding that the handouts the beggars were receiving only perpetuated their "street child" status. To establish a secure environment where each child can develop and learn, the model aims to include the families and communities close to these kids. Marot also started the ChildSafe campaign, which calls on companies and a broader community base to actively participate in safeguarding children. Under Marot's leadership, Friends-International launched a more extensive campaign that imitates the original strategy utilized in Cambodia and is being applied in other nations. It is now legal in Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, Honduras, Mexico, and Indonesia. Friends-International won the Skoll Foundation Social Entrepreneur Award in 2007, and Marot was named the East Asia Social Entrepreneur of the Year by The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship in 2009. The underprivileged youngsters could not fight for their rights or build a future for themselves.
