About Sebastian Copeland
Sebastian Copeland Biography
In the arctic areas, Sebastian Copeland has four world and Guinness records. He has traveled on foot across the Arctic Ocean, the Greenland Ice Sheet's length, and the Antarctic continent's east-to-west axis. He was attacked by polar bears, slid through the ice at temperatures below zero, and had frostbite injuries to nearly all extremities. Sebastian Copeland, an accomplished photographer, author, motivational speaker, and conservationist, has dedicated his life to the cause of environmental preservation. Sebastian has spoken before groups at the United Nations, the World Affairs Council, the General Assembly on Climate in New Orleans, the George Eastman House, Google Headquarters, and Apple's Senior Design Team, among other venues, for more than ten years. As a supporter of environmental concerns, he has made appearances on Larry King Live, NPR, ABC, Air America, and Al Gore's Current TV. He is a brave speaker and photographer whose keynotes will delight and motivate audiences at any conference or event. His presentations may be tailored to discuss the business world and the notion of giving 100% connection to inspiration in the most hostile settings. He is also an authority on the geopolitical ramifications of the impact of climate change on the polar regions and the urgent need for a market transition to a sustainable economy. Sebastian Copeland's skis have covered over 8,000 kilometers. To increase public awareness of climate change and its consequences on the Arctic, he toured the Arctic in 2009 with expedition partner Keith Heger on a voyage to the North Pole. The documentary Into the Cold: A Journey of the Soul, winner of several awards, is the result of this journey. The remarkable journey of two men to the North Pole in frigid conditions—considered by experts to be the most challenging expedition in history—covers more than 400 kilometers on foot. Into the Cold: A Personal and Harrowing Journey of Endurance and Commitment A Journey of the Spirit explores the soul's depths against the Great North's majestic background and conveys a powerful message: if the Great North disappears, humanity will follow. Sebastian earned a Guinness World Record for the most distance covered by skis and kites in 24 hours in 2010 when he reached 2,300 kilometers of the Greenland ice cap. Sebastian accomplished the first east-to-west transcontinental crossing of Antarctica in 2011–12, taking 82 days. Sebastian traversed two of its poles—the point of inaccessibility and the south pole—covering 4,100 kilometers on skis and a kite in the face of extreme cold, ruthless wind, and storms. Sebastian is a well-known photographer whose high-calibre pictures have been displayed, among others, at the Field Museum, the Peabody Essex Museum, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the United Nations. These pieces can also be found in private collections in Europe and the United States, where a number have been added to The Natural World Museum in San Francisco's permanent collection. For his debut book, Antarctica: The Global Warning, Sebastian most recently won the coveted Professional Photographer of the Year International Photography Awards. Additionally chose to travel as a part of the IPA Best of Show collection in 2006 and 2007, Sebastian's prints from his debut book. Numerous publications, including National Geographic, Men's Journal, GQ, Vanity Fair, Elle, People, Publisher's Weekly, and USA Today, have featured his still photography. Sebastian received the German GQ Man of the Year award in 2008 for his dedication to the environment. For his environmental activities, he has also received the Founder's Award from Global Green, the Environmental Stewardship Award from Gala, and the Cinema For Peace Special Award. Sebastian is a member of President Gorbachev's Global Green USA's board of directors.
