Dancing whiz Sean Paul began having success with singles in Jamaica in 1996. He steadily attracted attention worldwide after that, eventually breaking into the pop standard in 2002 with Dutty Rock. Sean Paul Henriques had a multiethnic baby on January 8, 1973. Paul, whose ancestors were Portuguese, Chinese, and Jamaican, grew up without difficulty in St. Andrew, Jamaica, where his mother was a well-known painter. He was a talented athlete who performed above expectations in swimming and water polo while representing the Jamaican national team in the sport above. While Paul had the education necessary for a successful career, dancehall music remained his first interest, mainly producing musical records. He became a DJ when he began writing his songs, modeling his sound after Super Cat, and seeking advice from Don Yute. In 1993, he also contacted several members of the reggae-pop band Third World, which helped forge professional relationships. In 1996, Paul released Baby Girl, his debut single, with producer Jeremy Harding. It was a commercial success, inspiring more Jamaican singles, including Nah Get No Bly (One More Try), Deport Them, Excite Me, Infiltrate, and Hackle Mi. Sean Paul initially worked with solo dancehall hitmaker Mr. Vegas on a production for rapper DMX in 1999. The song, Here Comes the Boom, was then used as the theme song for director Hype Williams' film Belly. Sean Paul then started to gain popularity among American audiences. Like the previous year, Paul's Hot Gal Today reached the Top 10 on the Billboard rap charts. Sadly, Paul and Mr. Vegas had a public argument about the packaging of the previous remix of Hot Gal Today. Still, it didn't stop Paul from performing at the Summer Jam 2000 in New York City, which served as the center of his American notoriety.
