Sean Carroll Biography

Theoretical physicist Sean Carroll works at the California Institute of Technology. In 1993, he graduated from Harvard University with a doctorate. His work focuses on fundamental physics and cosmology, including the universe's genesis, dark matter, energy, and spacetime symmetry. In addition, Carroll has recently focused on the origins of complexity, the arrow of time, and the principles of quantum physics. Carroll is the author of Spacetime and Geometry: An Introduction to General Relativity, From Eternity to Here: The Search for the Ultimate Theory of Time, and The Particle at the End of the Universe. The National Science Foundation, NASA, the Sloan Foundation, the Packard Foundation, the American Physical Society, the American Institute of Physics, and the Royal Society of London have given him awards and fellowships. Carroll regularly works as a science adviser for film and television and has made appearances on programs including The Colbert Report, NOVA on PBS, and Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife, author Jennifer Ouellette.
