Scott Peterson reports for the Monitor on the Middle East from Istanbul, Turkey, focusing primarily on Iran, Iraq, and Syria. He has reported on and captured conflict and incredible human tales across three landmasses for over 20 years. He is an internationally traveled and seasoned foreign correspondent who works as a photographer for Getty Images in New York. Scott joined the Monitor in 1996 as a Middle East reporter based in Amman, Jordan, and later rose to become the head of the Moscow section. From Algiers to Beirut to Tehran during those years, his inclusion eventually expanded to Russia and Central Asia. He traveled to Afghanistan in 1999 with the Taliban and then watched as they disintegrated when Kabul was overrun in 2001. His book, Let the Swords Encircle Me Iran - A Trip Beyond the Headlines, was built on the thirty trips he took to Iran. He has also frequently spoken out from Iraq, having sneaked across the border from Turkey during the 1991 Kurdish uprising before being forced to flee across the mountains with nearly a million other Kurds and several individual writers when Saddam Hussein's forces crushed the rebellion.
