Universal Design for Learning, technology integration, social-emotional learning, literacy, and special education are some of Savanna Flakes' areas of expertise as an international education consultant. Savanna has worked with school communities worldwide as an education consultant to develop teacher leaders and support efficient teaching strategies for kids with disabilities. She has previously held instructional leadership positions, such as administrator, professional learning manager, master educator, technology integration specialist, and inclusion instructional specialist. In these roles, she coached administrators and teachers on using cutting-edge teaching methods and research-proven strategies to engage students and give them meaningful access to challenging curricula. Savanna taught at American University and trained instructors to approach and instruct students with special needs. Savanna has released books and instructional materials on differentiated teaching, custom-created education, and literacy interventions for struggling readers through the Bureau of Education and Research. In addition to participating on a panel alongside Dan Habib for the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Maryland's Possibilities to Practical Applications, Savanna has been featured as the keynote speaker for the Office of the State Superintendent of Education for the District of Columbia. As a TEDx Speaker on Inclusive Practices, Savanna stands out. For her cutting-edge perspective on the future of education, her TED presentation, "Inclusion and Fast Food: Creating a Meaningful Learning Experience," won multiple awards. She writes an "Inclusion Corner" column for Multibriefs and contributes as a guest writer for Think Inclusive, where she offers teaching techniques to educators, parents, and students. By advising school communities on effective instructional and inclusive strategies to reach ALL learners, she aims to use her education, skills, and passion to positively touch the lives of teachers, kids, and families. Savanna has an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Virginia, a Post-Masters Certificate in Leadership and Administration from George Washington University, and certifications in Social Emotional Learning, Trauma, Mindfulness, and Emotional Intelligence. She is a Google Certified Educator, an International Standards of Technology Teacher, and a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCTS).
