Sarah Catharine Paulson is a performer in American movies, plays, and television. She began performing on stage and appeared in Jack and Jill (1995–1996) and American Gothic (1995–1996) in the 1990s (1999–2001). Later, she made cameo appearances in parody films like What Women Want (2000) and Down with Love (2003) and had notable roles in Path to War (2002) and The Notorious Bettie Page (2002). Paulson played the role of Harriet Hayes in the NBC parody dramatization of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip from 2006 to 2007, for which she received a Golden Globe Award nomination. In addition, she appeared in the 2008 noir hero movie The Spirit as Ellen Dolan. In each of the five seasons of the FX anthology of American Horror Story, Paulson has played various roles since 2011. For the fourth season of American Horror Story and her role as Abby Gerhard in Carol, Paulson earned a second Critics' Choice Television Award in 2015 and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie.
