Sarah O. Ladislaw Biography
Sarah Ladislaw directs CSIS's work on energy policy, market, and technology analyses as head of the Energy and National Security Program. Ladislaw is an authority on climate change, international oil and natural gas markets, and U.S. energy policy. She has written extensively on a wide range of topics, including U.S. energy policy, regulation, market dynamics, the geopolitics of energy, energy security and climate change, low-carbon pathways, and many other related topics. Her articles on regional energy concerns cover topics in China, Europe, Africa, and the Western Hemisphere. She has led brand-new initiatives at CSIS in energy technology development, the power industry, and climate change. In her previous position, Ladislaw addressed various economic, political, and energy issues in North America, the Andean region, and Brazil for the Department of Energy's Office of Policy and International Affairs. She also worked on trade concerns, comparative investment frameworks, the development of biofuels in the Western Hemisphere, and their application globally when the department employed her. Also, she briefly worked for Statoil in their Washington office as senior director for international relations. Ladislaw is regularly asked to give presentations at open forums, offer advice to businesses and decision-makers, and give congressional testimony. She serves as a term member on the Strategic Analysis Technical Review Panel for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Strategic Advisory Council for Georgia Tech's Strategic Energy Initiative, and the Council on Foreign Relations. She is a regular guest lecturer at different universities and has taught graduate-level courses on energy security as an adjunct professor at George Washington University. She routinely makes remarks in print, radio, and television media. Ladislaw graduated from George Washington University with a bachelor's degree in international affairs, East Asian studies, and Japanese and a master's degree in international affairs and global security, all as a member of the Presidential Administrative Fellows Program.
