She has survived alone in some of the world's most desolate locations. Her most recent expedition was from Australia to Siberia. Sarah Marquis entered the world bravely. She escaped with her dog at eight and spent the night in a cave. She was 17 then and rode a horse through Turkey without knowing how to ride. The Swiss traveler's need for novelty has driven her to traverse remote regions of the globe over great distances while immersed in nature, facing perilous conditions while learning about what the country has to offer, and keeping open to all ideas. She traversed the Australian outback in endurance mode in 2002–2003, surviving for 17 months on only her two feet and the rhythms of nature. She traveled 14000 kilometers back with Joe, a dingo whose life had been saved. Then, in 2006, an 8-month, 7000-kilometer ascent of the Andes that included Chile, Peru, and Bolivia began. Sarah is now traveling on her most focused adventure, a two-year trip crossing 20,000 kilometers from Southern Siberia to Australia.
