Sander Vanocur, a journalist with over 40 years of experience in print, radio, and television, just finished a video series on the post-war Congress and the media. Also, he produced a video series on television and the President, which was made available to political science departments and journalism programs at universities and colleges nationwide. He served as a professional-in-residence at The Freedom Forum before becoming the anchor of the History Channel cable television program Pictures in Time. Vanocur started in journalism as a correspondent for The Manchester Guardian in London. He worked concurrently as a stringer for CBS News and a commentator for the BBC's North American Service. He was a general assignment correspondent for The New York Times before joining NBC News in 1957. He rose to national notoriety while working for NBC News for 14 years. Before being designated national political correspondent, he covered the White House for three years. Vanocur worked for NBC News and also served as the Today Show's Washington correspondent, a contributing editor for the Huntley-Brinkley Report, and the anchor of the biweekly, two-hour magazine show First Tuesday. In September 1971, Vanocur departed NBC News to work as Senior Correspondent for PBS's National Public Affairs Center for Television. Vanocur, a seasoned political reporter, began working for ABC News in June 1977. He covered the Democratic and Republican candidates in the 1980 and 1984 presidential campaigns as ABC News' leading "overview" reporter. The anchor role for ABC News Business World, the first regularly scheduled weekly business show on network television, was assigned to Vanocur in June 1986. Vanocur has held several live interviews with essential business newsmakers since the program's start. He spoke with Governor Michael Dukakis and then-Vice President George Bush in 1988 on their economic platforms, making Business World unique in that it was the only show to interview Republican and Democratic candidates. Since 1958, Vanocur has covered both domestic and foreign beats. In January 1981, he was appointed to the Department of State as ABC News' Chief Diplomatic Correspondent. He covered the Falkland Islands War between Argentina and Great Britain in 1982 while serving as Senior Correspondent for ABC in Buenos Aires. To start his full-service communications and consulting firm, Old Owl Communications, Vanocur departed ABC News in 1991.
