Samantha Brown was raised in New Hampshire after moving there as a young child after being born in Dallas, Texas. Back then, visiting relatives in Pennsylvania meant packing the family station wagon for the trip. When she was a junior in high school, she drove over the border to Canada for a family vacation in Quebec. Oh my, what lies ahead! Samantha decided to attend Syracuse University to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts after falling in love with the performing arts in high school. Samantha relocated to New York City with her cat the week following graduation to pursue her goal of performing on stage. Unsurprisingly, this resulted in eight years of serving customers, attending auditions, and playing different parts in off-Broadway musicals. Samantha's job as a travel host on television developed accidentally. In 1999, a producer saw her work in a commercial and suggested she go to the Travel Channel for an audition for the new program "Great Vacation Houses." The interview nearly didn't happen... Because she missed her connecting connection, Samantha could not attend her first audition in Jacksonville, Florida. Good sound; it was again delayed until a week later. Samantha's second flight was likewise delayed, and she only had five minutes to catch her connecting flight. Ten minutes after the last call for boarding, she dashed to the gate. Samantha proceeded to run on the tarmac towards the small 50-passenger airplane that was around 100 feet distant after a compassionate flight attendant encouraged her to try to join the aircraft. She was in the middle of a sprint when a dispatcher said it was too late to board. She broke down and informed the dispatcher through tears that she had been waiting tables for eight years in the hopes of landing a dream job like this. He finally gave up and informed her that the flight's pilot alone could override his choice. Samantha rushed the 100 feet and positioned herself under the plane's nose as the dispatcher boarded the aircraft and explained the situation to the pilot. She cried, "PLEASE!" as she bowed her head in the direction of the captain.
