Sam Mikula Biography

Sam Mikulak is an American artistic gymnast who was born on October 13, 1992. His parents introduced him to gymnastics when he was two years old. He was a part of the Junior National team from 2007 to 2010, and in the 2010 Junior Olympic Nationals, he won the all-around title as well as event titles in the floor exercise and vault. He went to the University of Michigan for his collegiate education. Later, he joined the Michigan Wolverines men's gymnastics team. He won the individual all-around title in the 2011 NCAA Men's Gymnastics championship with a career-high score of 90.75 during his freshman years from 2010 to 2011. The next year, he won the Big Ten Conference high bar title with a 15.45 score and the pommel horse championship with a 15.55 score. He placed third in the all-around competition in the 2012 NCAA championship. He is the first member of the men's artistic gymnastics team at the University of Michigan to qualify for the Olympic Games. He was also chosen for the five-man United States men's gymnastics team in 2012. He subsequently went on to represent the United States at the London 2012 Summer Olympics. He made history by being the first male gymnast from the University of Michigan to be chosen to the United States Olympic squad.
