Salam Fayyad Biography

Former Palestinian Authority prime minister and economist Salam Fayyad. During his time with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 1987 to 2001, he held the position of resident representative in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. After that, he managed the Arab Bank in Palestine before being appointed minister of finance of the Palestinian Authority in June 2002. Dr. Fayyad held that position in multiple governments until he resigned in December 2005, during which time he introduced significant financial changes. He stood for office as an independent candidate in January 2006 and won a seat in the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), where he presided over the Finance Committee. In addition, Fayyad established the charitable charity Future for Palestine in August 2013. Dr. Fayyad is now a Senior Visiting Scholar and Daniella Lipper Coules Distinguished Visitor in Foreign Affairs at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Dr. Fayyad has an MBA from St. Edward's University, a BSc in science from the American University of Beirut, and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Texas in Austin.
