Ryan's life would change dramatically during the next two years. He was forced to mature at a young age as he raised $250,000, trained, and planned for a round of the globe. As he traveled across the world, Ryan earned international news, including a feature story on 60 Minutes, numerous television appearances, radio interviews, and print interviews. The entire world was watching as this young guy pursued his goals. It was a trip that would go down in history. Ryan's career took off after he was named one of Australia's 50 Great Explorers, the 2013 Australian Geographic Young Adventurer of the Year, and a Young Australian of the Year finalist. After the global flight, it was all about prizes, speaking appearances, and authoring a book called "Born to Fly," which will be released soon. The little child from a typical Australian family even met The Royals. It was a wonderful life. 5 After a severe light aircraft crash in 2015, Ryan's life altered in an instant. Against all chances, he survived and was admitted to a spinal rehabilitation hospital as a full paraplegic with no mobility below the waist. With five additional back breaks and fractured bones ranging from his face to his feet, Ryan needed to draw on all he'd learned on his globe adventure and more. The largest project of his young life was just getting started. Ryan is a master of adversity and a firm believer that life is won and lost above the shoulders, and that your mind can be your most powerful weapon or your worst enemy. He exhibited his mental toughness by setting records as a pilot, but he also demonstrated his mastery by relearning to walk and battling his way back into the skies.
