About Ryan Anderson
Ryan Anderson Biography
Ryan James Anderson (born May 6, 1988) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans (NBA). Anderson was born in the city of Sacramento in the state of California. El Dorado Hills' Oak Ridge High School was his alma mater. Anderson was the boyfriend of Gia Allemand, a former Bachelor contestant, and model who died in August 2013 after attempting suicide. Anderson was a key player in the Trojans' victory against Mater Dei High School in Division II California State Championship game in 2005. Sacramento's Arco Arena hosted the contest. Anderson's number one rated squad nearly avoided an upset against a John H. Pitman High School team headed by current NFL San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in the first round of that playoff series. Kaepernick had 34 points and Anderson had 50 points in the game. Anderson was the top player at the University of California, Berkeley in college. In the 2007–2008 season, he led the Pacific-10 Conference in scoring, averaging 21.6 points per game (more than fellow Pac-10 first-rounders O.J. Mayo, Kevin Love, Brook Lopez, and Robin Lopez). California received an invitation to the National Invitational Tournament despite missing out on the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Anderson declared himself eligible for the 2008 NBA Draft on April 3, 2008. He didn't hire an agent because he wanted to keep the option of returning to Cal if he dropped out of the draught before June 16. Anderson was selected #21 overall in the first round of the NBA Draft by the New Jersey Nets on June 26, 2008. He made his NBA debut on October 29, 2008, in a 95–85 win over the Washington Wizards for the Nets. He was able to acquire the starting power forward position in early March. He was dealt with the Orlando Magic on June 25, 2009, along with Vince Carter, for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie, and Courtney Lee. Anderson's contract option for the 2010–11 season was picked up by the Orlando Magic on October 27, 2009. Anderson started the 2009-10 NBA season as the Magic's starting power forward, taking over for the banned Rashard Lewis. Anderson had a strong start to the shorter 2011-12 NBA season, scoring 30 points in a game against the New York Knicks, a career-high. He received the NBA's Most Improved Player Award at the end of the season. The New Orleans Hornets acquired Anderson in a sign-and-trade for Gustavo Ayón on July 11, 2012. The Hornets have renamed the Pelicans in April 2013.
