Roseanne Cherrie Barr is an American actress, comedian, writer, television producer, and director who ran for President of the Peace and Freedom Party in California in 2012. Barr started her career doing stand-up comedy in bars before landing the part of Roseanne in the sitcom Roseanne. From 1988 through 1997, the program was a success, lasting nine seasons.
For her role in the program, she received an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. In the eight years leading up to her sitcom, Barr had developed a furious working-class domestic goddess character and wanted to present a genuine program about a powerful mother who was not a victim of patriarchal materialism.
