Rodney Laney Biography

Rodney has always been a comic, having been born and reared in Paterson, New Jersey. He would entertain at family gatherings even as a child, often against his will. Years of counseling have aided him in his recovery from these horrific experiences. School authorities determined that physical punishment was no longer essential in the school system as a result of Rodney's school years; they now demand lethal punishment! Laney's comic career began on a whim in 1988. He went to a comedy club with a fellow airman who was an amateur comic while stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Rod ascended the stage and was greeted with a tremendous ovation when his companion bombed. Rodney's addiction was to the stage, while his friend's addiction was to crack cocaine. He spent the following ten years performing at open mics, private parties, and anyplace else he could. In 1997, he began his professional career. From New York to California, he began playing in bars and colleges. He performed at Chris Tucker's Comedy Club in Atlanta, as well as at the "Laffapalooza" Urban Comedy Festival and Judy Carter's comedy showcase in Big Bear, California. He mostly performs in New York City, at venues such as the Gotham Comedy Club, Broadway Comedy Club, Caroline's, and Dangerfield's. Some comics wait for their big break; Rod is already on his way. He starred in and executive produced his debut feature picture, "Pride & Loyalty," in 2001, which was released on pay per view in June 2002. Marj Dusay, Gina Tognoni, John Bolger, and Emmy nominated Rebecca Budig were among the cast members from "One Life to Live," "Guiding Light," and "All My Children." He starred as Willie in Public Defender Pictures' comedy "Tinsel Town" in 2002. Paul Taylor, John Palumbo, Johnny Williams, and Eileen Fulton appeared in the film. Rodney has completed pilots for Comedy Central, MTV, and A&E, and has been on HBO's "Bad Boys of Comedy," Fox News Channel's "Red Eye," CBS's "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," Comedy Central's "Premium Blend," and the BBC's "The World Stands Up" in London. He can presently be seen on "The Smoking Gun Presents..." on truTV. Rodney can now be viewed on the HD channel "comedy.tv" and will soon be featured on "LOL Lounge" when TBS Presents A Very Funny Festival: Just for Laughs Chicago airs. He's also performed at Montreal's famed Just for Laughs Comedy Festival.
