Robert Forster Biography

Forster was born in Rochester, New York, to Grace Dorothy and Robert Wallace Foster, an elephant trainer for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and subsequently a baking supply business executive; the couple separated in 1949. He made his cinematic debut in the critically praised Medium Cool in 1969, but after that, he generally had minor roles in action and horror pictures, notably Disney's The Black Hole, which seemed to push his career into oblivion. In 1997, he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Jackie Brown, which he credits with resurrecting his career. He has since appeared in films such as Like Mike, Mulholland Drive, and Me, Myself, and Irene, to mention a few. He recently starred as a detective in the made-for-television film The Hunt for the BTK Killer, in which he played a real-life serial killer.
