Rob Neyer Biography

Rob Neyer is an author who specializes in baseball. He began his career working for Bill James and STATS, then went on to work as a columnist for ESPN.com from 1996 to January 2011, before becoming the National Baseball Editor for SB Nation from February 2011 to January 2014. Neyer worked for STATS, Inc. before joining ESPNet SportsZone, the predecessor of ESPN.com, in 1996. From 1996 through January 31, 2011, Neyer worked for ESPN for 15 years. He began working for SB Nation as its National Baseball Editor on February 1, 2011, and left in January 2014, having written his final piece for the site. Neyer is a member of the Baseball Writers' Association of America, as well as the Fielding Bible Awards' 10-person voting panel. Baseball Dynasties (2000) with Eddie Epstein, Feeding the Green Monster (2001), Rob Neyer's Big Book of Baseball Lineups (2003), The Neyer/James Guide to Pitchers (2004) with Bill James, Rob Neyer's Big Book of Baseball Blunders (2006), and Rob Neyer's Big Book of Baseball Legends (2007) are the six books he has written or co-authored (2008). Rob Neyer grew raised in the upper Midwest before settling in the central Midwest, near Kansas City. After reading Peter Golenbock's Bums: An Oral History of the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Bill James Baseball Abstract 1984, he became interested in baseball and attended the University of Kansas. Neyer dropped out of college in his fourth year because he was uninterested in education and went to work as a roofer.
