The National Center for Inquiry & Improvement's Founder and President is Rob Johnstone. He works to assist two- and four-year institutions in developing structures and procedures that improve student completion, learning, and employment outcomes. His innovative and engaging approach to improvement combines the worlds of foundations, initiatives, and system-level policy reforms with the work of college practitioners and senior executives on the ground. Johnstone has worked with over 350 colleges across the country, both directly and through initiatives like the American Association of Community Colleges Pathways Institutes, the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the California Guided Pathways Initiative, NCII's A2I2 Cohort Model, and Jobs for the Future's work with statewide centers in the national Student Success Centrum. For more than a decade, he worked as a director, dean, and provost in the California community college system, and previous to that, he worked as a strategic consultant in the industry. He has a unique dual viewpoint on this work because of his more than 25 years of consulting expertise in the industry and higher education. Above all, he has a strong desire to improve people's lives and communities via a social justice and equality lens.
