Rita Golden Gelman has authored over seventy children's and two adult books. Her memoir, "Tales of a Female Nomad: Living at Large in the World," published by Crown/Random House in 2001, still sells widely in paperback. In 1987, Gelman sold all her possessions to become a citizen of the world and has never returned to a settled life, calling herself a modern-day nomad. In "Tales..." she writes about the first fifteen years of living worldwide, mostly in developing countries. Her most recent book, "Female Nomad and Friends: Breaking Free and Breaking Bread Around the World," published in June 2010, is an anthology of forty-one authors, primarily women, telling their stories of connecting across cultures, including eight stories by Gelman, accompanied by thirty-three international recipes. All author royalties from the book fund vocational school scholarships for high school graduates from slums in New Delhi, facilitated by Rotary International via US Rotary in Leonardtown, MD. Gelman's children's books include "More Spaghetti, I Say!" about Minnie, a spaghetti-loving monkey, and "Body Battles," which teaches children how their bodies fight off viruses and other threats their health like drugs and poisons.
