Richard Zacks is an American author, historian, and journalist. He was born on April 5, 1949, in Savannah, Georgia, and grew up in New York City. Zacks attended the University of Michigan and graduated with a degree in political science. After college, he was a journalist for various publications, including the New York Post, Village Voice, and Time magazine.
In the late 1980s, Zacks began writing books and has since published several famous works of history and nonfiction. His books include "Island of Vice," a biography of New York City mayor William "Boss" Tweed, "The Pirate Hunter," a biography of Captain Kidd; and "The Pirate Coast," a history of piracy in the early American Republic.
