He earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his law degree from Harvard Law School. Posner served as a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan Jr. and then worked as an assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States. He became a law professor at the University of Chicago in 1969. He was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in 1981. Posner has authored over 50 books and nearly 3,000 articles on various topics, including antitrust law, intellectual property, and economics. He has been a proponent of the law and economics movement. He is known for his pragmatic and often controversial views on legal issues.
