About Richard Feynman

Richard Feynman Biography

Richard Phillips Feynman was an American theoretical physicist who worked on the path integral formulation of quantum mechanics, quantum electrodynamics theory, and the physics of supercooled liquid helium superfluidity, as well as particle physics, where he created the parton model. In 1965, Feynman shared the Nobel Prize in Physics with Julian Schwinger and Sin-Itiro Tomonaga for their contributions to the creation of quantum electrodynamics. Feynman diagrams are a widely used graphical representation technique for mathematical equations regulating the behavior of subatomic particles that he devised. Feynman became one of the most well-known physicists in the world throughout his lifetime. He was named one of the top 10 greatest physicists of all time in a survey of 130 renowned scientists conducted by the British publication Physics World in 1999. During World War II, he contributed to the construction of the atomic bomb, and in the 1980s, he was a member of the Rogers Commission, which probed the Space Shuttle Challenger tragedy. Feynman is recognized for pioneering quantum computing and inventing the notion of nanotechnology, in addition to his theoretical physics work. At the California Institute of Technology, he held the Richard Chace Tolman chair in theoretical physics. Feynman popularised physics with books and lectures, notably There's Plenty of Room at the Bottom, a 1959 discussion on top-down nanotechnology, and The Feynman Lectures on Physics, a three-volume collection of his undergraduate lectures. Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! and other semi-autobiographical works made Feynman famous. and What Does It Matter What Others Think?, as well as publications about him, such as Tuva or Bust! and James Gleick's Genius: The Life and Science of Richard Feynman.
