Richard Phillips Feynman was an American theoretical physicist who worked on the path integral formulation of quantum mechanics, quantum electrodynamics theory, and the physics of supercooled liquid helium superfluidity, as well as particle physics, where he created the parton model. In 1965, Feynman shared the Nobel Prize in Physics with Julian Schwinger and Sin-Itiro Tomonaga for their contributions to the creation of quantum electrodynamics. At the California Institute of Technology, he held the Richard Chace Tolman chair in theoretical physics.
